2nd encounter
Enormous convulsions exploded from within the mass, sending it’s shockwaves into the darkness. It should have been easy for it; too easy in fact, to manipulate that sad excuse for a boy. Setting things up for him to fall in love with the girl’s loved one, only to have him kill him and turn the gun on himself.
Though his spirit did not amount to much, he did make quite a tasty side dish for the mass. Swarming with the others his Eroc had now become part of the mass itself. It now lay in wait for its main course, the focus of it’s attention for sometime, to finish herself off. It had come so close to winning too; she was almost within its grasp, only for it to be blocked by something.
An entity as powerful as its self, and yet so similar; its ancient foe had made it’s presence known to the mass once more. A hollow laugh echoed from within the mass for soon the struggle would begin anew. It could taste its own excitement, it had a new found hunger for the prize, and the wandering lost was going to be its next meal. This time the Nekat-Luo’s was determined to win its prize, despite the presence of the Tsol-Noea.
………
The darkness of the veil has never been absolute, the glow from the flows issued forth to illuminate it’s presence among the darkness. Even so, they did not penetrate any further than a few steps from its source. Along the flows ran the essence of countless individuals appearing, much like fish do, swimming down its currents, the tides of fate and destiny.
It was relaxing to watch, the essences darted brightly down one stream and then another, some lead the way and others would follow; in different directions some would go. Unfortunately a fair few got swept down other paths, taken by the strong currents that flowed their particular way. It was all too beautiful to behold he thought, but today one particular individual was keeping most of his attention.
She had been drawn down a path that no one was intended to follow; if he had not shown up she would have passed straight through into the veil of woe and become lost. Despite his somewhat timely appearance, she still lingered near too close to the veils edge, and that was starting to get him slightly worried. Normally when someone had that close a call with death, they would usually move away from death’s door much faster.
He paused on this thought for a while…
“How odd” he muttered to no one in particular, it was as if something was keeping her from moving on, some other he could not see. Slowly he started to search the flows around her, trying to locate whom ever or perhaps what ever was keeping her there. In the end he found nothing. It seemed somewhat pointless to look, and yet he could not shake his unease; so he perched himself above the flow in which she swam; deciding it would be a good idea to wait to see what would happen next.
……….
The mass began to swirl once more, its plan had begun. Clouds of thick mist were forming before it, a shape that was beginning to resemble that of a wolf.
its fur took shape, a colour as dark as night. It wouldn’t take long now, for it to finish its little gift, and then the fun would begin.
………..
Day light issued forth into the room, slipping past the thick curtains on to her face. She rolled over, it way too bright, even though she had her eyes closed, it didn’t stop the coloured light dancing before her eyes. She opened one eye and waited a little while for the colours before her to stop dancing around so wildly then she opened the other. When she was finally satisfied that her vision had returned to something that could pass for normal sight, she glanced at the clock that lay on the small table beside her, it read 09:52. It took a little over a minute for her to realise that she late.
“No, not again, he’s going to kill me!”
She leapt out of bed, had taken no more than two steps before landing on her face.
“Oomph!”
Once again she had tripped over that silly oversized stuffed teddy her boyfriend had brought for her, the year before, on her birthday.
The teddy was so big; it never really sat right, so it tended to fall over during the night. She picked herself up, and brushed the crumbs off her chest; her room was a mess again. She caught sight of her calendar hanging on the wall, and fell back into bed, it was Saturday.
“Thank God for that, I thought I had work”
“Honey your breakfast is ready” it was her mother’s voice.
“Okay” she called back.
“Don’t forget to pick that teddy up again, Aurora”
“Mum, my friends all call me Aura”
“Well you’ll still be Aurora to me honey”
“Yeah….yeah…. I’ll be down in a minute”
Rolling out of bed and missing the bear this time, she went her wardrobe and got changed.
It was close to lunch time by the time she got out of the house, it was cloudier now than earlier. But this didn’t seem to stop today from being any less hot, it was early march and yet they had a heat wave for about a week now.
“Hey Aura” Clare called as she ran up the street to meet her, “what kept you, did you over sleep again?”
“Yeah….. Well I was having this strange dream, about this guy dressed in black, and who wore a white coat”
“Huh …that’s the same dream you had a couple of nights ago, wasn’t it?”
“Yeah strange isn’t it”
“Any idea, who your fantasy guy is?”
“Nope, I can’t even remember what his face looks like”
“Are you sure he’s even a he, he could be a woman, this could be a whole new side to you!”
“Hay…!”
Laughs “okay I’m only kidding”
“It still hurts Clare”
“Well ok then, Miss Sensitive; I won’t mention your erotic fantasy’s again”
Blushes “I’m not having fantasies about anyone”
“No? Just some guy who dresses in black and wears a long white coat; who makes you smile just thinking about him! That reminds me are you still carrying that silly stone around”
Smiles “Yeah it’s in my pocket”
“What’s the deal with that thing any way, you’ve had it ever since that night a couple of months ago; you really should throw it away”
“Its to remind me of him”
“Who…? Your mystery guy; we keep telling you that no one else was there that night… It was sheer chance, that I saw you.”
“He was there, I know he was”
“Yeah… yeah… suit yourself, why should I care”
“Come one; let’s get to the park already”
……..….
The sky whose fabric is full of folds did yet part for a short instance, in that instance a dark shadow dropped out from between and plunged into the river below. As the ripples began to settle, thee darkened mass began moving upstream.
…………..
Two now swam within the current, dancing against one another playfully. A small smile broke out from his face as he watched them. “Hum……. what’s this” as another appeared out of the darkness and began to make its way towards the two. It was darkly coloured and swam with barely a ripple.
“This won’t be good” he said as he got to his feet.
He took a few steps forward and parted the veil with but a stroke of his arm He whispered to himself “seems it’s not going to back down again”.
Nekat-Lou's plan is shattered but it was not without it's victorys. The wandering lost is now known to it but will the Tosl-Noea discover this in time to save her.
