College is FUN!

well... sometimes

Pros of College:

-Picking your schedule
-Sleeping in (if your schedule allows)
-Having school less than 5 days a week (if your schedule allows)
-Studying your major
-Meeting new friends
-Getting a dorm room

Cons of College:

-Lack of classes with friends (depends on many factors!)
-Lots of essay writing
-Sometimes you have to have a cruddy schedule

This semester I have school 4 days a week. But those 4 days are jam packed. My schedule last semester was 6 days a week, but I had at most 3 classes on two of the days. the other days I often had 1 class then I went home. Part of the cruddy scheduling. It actually was because I am getting into more specific classes, so they only offer them during  a few certain times. More general ed. classes that everyone takes are at more flexible times.

I get to sleep in 2 of the four days I go to school XD yay I only get up early Tuesday and Thursday. I am currently studying Illustration at my community college... and I must say having a schedule of nearly all various art classes is fun. A lot of work but its fun. I hope the school I transfer to will be fun as well...

In my art classes, nearly all the people are different, except for a couple who I know from other classes. This might not happen at smaller institutions, but my community college has 23,000 something people attending, so it's kinda rare if you get into a class with the same person more than once. But as I said... my art classes this happens since you're grouped with people in similar majors to yourself. Although your friends you have arent in your class, it gives you a chance to make new ones. So that's been cool.

I only lived in a dorm for a month last summer, when I was over in England for my Cambridge University experience. But I liked having a new room to decorate. My old room is messy and cluttered with years of things I need to get away from. So I look forward to getting a new dorm in my transfer school and just starting fresh.

But yeah... college isn't all peachy. Most classes they want essays as opposed to multiple choice stuff. You have to think critically as opposed to regurgitating what the prof tells you (in a lot of Liberal Arts classes anyway... no so much in Math or Health class). My honors classes had me pumping out a small essay nearly once a week. But I will say that when I write essays for any other class now it's cheese cake... Seriously.

My schedule isn't too cruddy. The only part I don't like is having to take an evening class, and that I have to get up at 8 the next morning after that evening class. But it's doable. I like it better over having class 6 days a week... never doing that again if I can help it (I had no choice last semester... grah).

Almost two years of college done... wow...

I need to finish my Sophomore Thesis... We're presenting our projects this Monday. I am doing a poster of mine and I get to answer questions on my topic to audience members. Can ya guess my topic? No I didn't do it on anime... I wanted to focus on the industry I wanna go into. I plan to go into the American animation market. The only requirements for our paper was that the topic had to link to Globalization and our papers had to be roughly 20 pages of research and discussion of our findings. So I am looking at how animation spreads cultural awareness (both world cultures through the eyes of Americans, as well as western ideals in how their characters act and behave). I also look at how Americans have made bad stereotypes about the different cultures they've portrayed in animation... but also look at the positives of exposing audiences around the world to other cultures through animation.

My profs. found it fascinating... 5 of my fellow scholar students are doing like... global health issues. And I am like "Borrinnggg... I wanna do something fun and up my alley" so wa lah. Not the most scholarly topic... then again my profs. said anything can be scholarly depending on how you approach it. It's just nice that I am almost done with it. I've been working on it since October!

But it's kinda like... who knew you could write papers on something of interest :P

I stop rambling now! I need to get to work!
