The Unforgettable Dream

“Where did all of this fog come from?” Shane asked herself. Shane did not know where she was, when suddenly she heard waves crashing against a shore. Out of nowhere, the fog dissipated and Shane found herself in the water looking into a bay. Realizing this, she was excited and started swimming towards the bay. Shane was enjoying herself, when someone said, “IT’S YOU!” Shane quickly spun around in the water to see a boy, in a boat, looking down at her. “I have wanted to see you for so long,” the boy said. Before the boy said anymore, Shane recognized the boy as Kousuke, and asked, “What are YOU doing here?!” “I do not know. Last thing I remember is falling asleep. What about you? What are you doing here?” asked Kousuke. “The last thing I remember is falling asleep too,” Shane retorted. “So do you mean this is a dream? If so, then this is the best dream ever!” Kousuke bellowed. Shane thought, “I think this is the best dream ever too, but why is he saying this to me?”

Shane looked into the water and saw that she was in her mermaid form, with her flowing lavender hair and pearl white scales with their flaring red tips. “Oh no!” Shane thought, and she was just about to run off, when Kousuke hopped into the water and took hold of her. Kousuke reeled her back to the boat and pulled her into it. “I-I did not comprehend how strong he was!” Shane thought with surprise to Kousuke’s strength.

After snapping out of her daze, she found Kousuke hovering over her, in the boat. “You are not going ANYWHERE, until we talk!” Kousuke said forcefully. Shane and Kousuke stared each other down, until Kousuke leaned in and kissed Shane lightly on the lips. “Now, THAT felt good,” Kousuke noted, while he withdrew himself from his hovering. “Yes, that did,” Shane thought in silence.

Shane pushed herself up, so she was more comfortable in the boat. Kousuke just stared in amazement that a girl with so much beauty was sitting next to him, and Shane thought the same as she collected her thoughts together.

Without noticing it, Kousuke moved closer to her. He wormed his arms around her like a snake wrapped itself around its prey. He held her without any restraint. Shane could not believe how over powering he was. “LET GO!!” she shrieked, struggling out of his arms. Kousuke, now hesitant, slowly released the hold he had on her. Shane felt as though she was being clamped together tightly. “Please, just let me go,” Shane pleaded as she gazed into Kousuke’s eyes. Kousuke slowly moved away to the other end of the boat. He pleaded back at Shane with his entire facial expression collaborating to his will. Shane averted her attention back to the water, and stared at its flowing waves.

At that moment, Shane decided she would never see Kousuke, in the form of a mermaid, again. It hurt her too much, to see someone she loved, love her as someone else. She pushed herself up with her arms, and was on the brink of completely leaving, when Kousuke broke the silence by asking, “Where are you going?” Shane stopped, and said, without looking at him, “Home and away from you.” “WHY?!” Kousuke asked in exclamation. He answered part of his own question by asking another “Is it because of Yvette? I even told her, that there was NOTHING between us anymore! I want you to believe me. Y-yo-you are the only one I really care about, so believe me, please.”

Noticing the heat radiating from his face, Kousuke looked away, so the girl, he was in love with, would not know. “I believe you, I just do not want to see you anymore,” Shane admitted. Shock and surprise drained the heat out of Kousuke’s face, as he turned to see the girl glaring at him. After a pause of silence, which seemed like an eternity, Shane looked away from Kousuke, and dove into the water. Kousuke lunged to the edge; the mermaid was just at, and looked into the water. “PLEASE, GIVE ME A CHANCE TO PROVE MY LOVE TO YOU!” Kousuke hollered into the once again fogged bay.

There was a moment of silence, until the water was disturbed by a splash. Kousuke followed the sound to the left of the boat, almost running his face into Shane’s. Kousuke fell back abruptly, causing the boat to rock. “You want to prove your love to me?” she asked with sarcasm as well as curiosity. “Y-yes! If there is anyway I can prove my love to you, TELL ME!” he said, gathering his ground in the boat. “I have one idea…” she said, fading at the end. “WHAT?” Kousuke practically screamed. “Well, if you can figure out who I cam as a human being, than I promise to love you as I did when you confessed your love to me,” Shane confessed.

Surprised at her confession of love, he wanted to jump for joy, but did not. “One thing first,” he said pleased. She just looked at him as she waited for the upcoming question. “Serenity,” she said as if she knew what he was going her for her name. “Just so you know,” she said as she eased herself into the water, “I do not go by the name ‘Serenity’ as a human.” “Then how am I supposed to find you, and how long do I have?” questioned Kousuke, even though he wanted to ask how she knew he was going to ask for her name. “I cannot answer your first question, but you have until graduation to find me,” replied ‘Serenity’. “Graduation? How old are you and where do you go to school?” Kousuke proceed to ask, so he could get as close as he could to finding the human side of the mermaid.

“I am a second year and I go to…Kensai Academy,” she responded. “KENSAI?! I go to Kensai Academy,” he proudly exclaimed, “but I have never seen you there before.” “Just because I go there, does not mean I look the same,” she explained. Before Kousuke could ask anything else, ‘Serenity’ started to float away. “WAIT!” Kousuke shouted. There was silence as his voice echoed into the vacant space filled with fog.

Unexpectedly, the boat was nudged and Kousuke fell into the water. Kousuke started to drift in and out of consciousness, as he fell into the deep abyss, getting colder as he went further down.

A sudden burst of heat spread throughout his body as something touched his skin in the deep, dark, endlessly flowing water. He could suddenly feel a rush of air spread through his lungs and soon, through his entire body. “This heat, I-I like it a lot. Where is it coming from? I cannot see anything in this darkness,” thought Kousuke. Soon he spotted a speck of light in the abandoned darkness. He continued to follow the light as it grew larger and larger. Soon enough, the darkness was engulfed in the light.

Kousuke slowly opened his eyes, as his senses started coming back to him. Kousuke could feel sand run through his fingertips. “I must be on a beach,” he thought. Once his senses had almost completely returned, he realized that ‘Serenity’ was breathing air into him. Finally, Kousuke coughed up the water that had caused him to fall into unconsciousness. “Oh my lord! Are you alright?” Shane asked anxiously. “I am fine…thanks to you,” he replied as he stared up at her with thankful eyes. “But I must say, this is too real to be a dream,” he added. “Yeah, well, I hope you do not forget that I am not going to see you again, unless you find me as a human,” Shane noted as she pushed herself off the edge of the beach.

Kousuke got up and dashed to her and said, “You save my life and THEN remind me I cannot see you?! Do you not think that that is a bit TOO cruel?!” Without giving him an answer, Shane knocked him out of the way with her tail.

Kousuke fell forward and landed in the sand right next to ‘Serenity’. “What I think is right or wrong, does not matter. I am just following the rules of the game,” she announced. Worry, shock, and confusion faltered Kousuke’s movements to stop the girl he was in love with from disappearing into the water.

When she was gone completely, Kousuke collapsed onto his back and looked up at the partially foggy sky above him. He spotted a star or two, before he completely accepted the fact that this was not a dream, or at least not a regular one, and he would find ‘Serenity’ in Tokyo, at his school.
