Ding Dong!
Andrew and Jasper walked into the house wearing sweaters that the sisters had bought for them.
“Hi!” shouted Ruby and Sapphire, joyfully, as they jumped up and hugged the two boys.
“Guys, come back and help!” screamed Pearl, as she fixed up the tree in the corner. She finished setting it up, and their mother came out of the kitchen.
“Girls, the cookies are ready,” she called. “Hello, Jasper, Andrew.” She started to leave, and then stopped. “Oh, girls, when are you going to leave-”
Suddenly, Ruby jumped and covered her mouth.
“You’re not supposed to tell them,” she whispered, pointing toward the boys.
Cinderella’s eyes widened, but she nodded.
“Tell us what?” asked Andrew. He turned to Jade.
“Nothing!” interrupted Sapphire. She started pushing Jasper toward the door. “But now’s not a good time.”
“But you are the one that said I should take more time off of the kingdom!”
“Things change.”
“What, but-”
Jasper was interrupted as the door swung shut after Andrew and him.
“Whew,” Sapphire said, slumping against the door. “It’s hard lying to them like that.” “But you just did it so easily!” “That’s only because I’m such a brilliant actress, Ruby.”
“So,” interrupted Jade. “What’s the plan?”
“First,” started Sapphire, flinging out a map. “We take the car from here all the way to over there. Then, we pick up Dawn and Dust. And finally,” she paused and smiled. “We make it to Star City- capital of all Amagica!”
Meanwhile, Jasper and Andrew were outside listening through the door.
“I wonder,” Andrew said to Jasper. “If they know we are listening to them.”
“So, Mom,” asked Pearl, inside the house. “Who’s going to drive?”
Cinderella froze. Uh-oh, she thought. What am I going to do?
“Um,” she smiled, uncertainly. Pearl seems the most responsible… But Sapphire is the eldest…then again Ruby appears to have the most experience (although they only got their driver licenses this week!)… yet Jade is the most calm… “I say,” she declared. “That… I will think of a number between one and ten, and you all take turns guessing.”
There was silence for a few moments.
“Ten!” shouted Pearl.
“One!” shouted Ruby.
“Three?” guessed Sapphire.
“Five?” said Jade.
“All wrong,” Cinderella admitted. This number was a little hard. I should have never picked this one-
“Seven!” squeaked a tiny voice.
Cinderella mouth hung agape. “That… was the number.”
“You can’t be serious.” That was Jade.
