Wingéd ~ Chapter 14

"Alright, get up," Aria's command was punctuated by something hitting me in the arm. I opened my eye a sliver and looked at what she had thrown. A small, ruby red pillow lay on my stomach, tottering towards the edge. Reaching out a hand, I grabbed it and hugged it to my chest. I had slept well, and did not wish to leave the warmth of my bed.

"I'm gonna go grab a shower. Just try and get yourself out of bed, k?" Aria asked as she threw the covers off her and stood up. She stretched, almost falling back onto the bed behind her. Running her fingers through her hair, she shuffled out of the room, down the hall to where the bathroom was. As the door to the bathroom closed behind her, I slowly stretched from where I was under the covers, much as a cat would. Sighing, I climbed out of the bed, and went to stand at the window, taking in the beautiful sight. There were men walking back and forth among rows of plants and the large barn across from the house. Noises came from the yards as the animals were being fed. It was so much like the farm of old in those small tasks, and yet, the machinery that the farmers now used showed how different it truly was. After a few minutes, Aria came back in, wrapped in a robe, and shoved me towards the bathroom. After explaining how the shower worked, she handed me a lavender robe and went back to her room to get ready. Breathing deeply, I turned the knobs, undressed, and hopped into the shower.

"Hey, hop in!" Aria waved to the guys as she pulled to a stop infront of Allen's house. They had been standing in the yard, carrying strange satchels on their backs. I had one as well, filled with empty books and strange writing implements, sitting at my feet in the passenger seat. Allen and Mekaîle walked over and opened the door, sliding into the back seat.

"Lily, you ready for school?" Allen laughed, "god knows it was a pain getting Mekaîle ready!"

"Sucker! Lily was a piece of cake!" Aria snickered as she pulled back out into the road.

"I am not a piece of cake!" I said indignantly.

"I know. Don't take everything I say so literally. Humans use a lot of slang when they talk. When I said you were a piece of cake, I meant it was really easy to get you ready."

            "Oh," I said quietly.

"Hey, turn up the tunes!" Allen yelled, rather loudly, from what seemed to be beside my ear. Aria obliged, and we spent the rest of the drive listening to the strange music that eminated from all around the vehicle.

Aria pulled into a paved lot filled with many other mechanical vehicles sitting before a large brick building. Hundreds of humans appearing to be the same age as Aria and Allen milled on the lawn in groups. After she parked the car, the four of us climbed out, with Aria and Allen stearing Mekaîle and myself towards the building. Calls of hello rang out to either side, directed to the humans walking with us, while strange glances were cast upon Mekaîle and I. Allen and Aria returned the greetings heartily, seeming to share many of the same friends. Finally, though, we reached the building, and were lead inside, down many a hall, to what Aria called the 'student services'. She walked right up to the counter and spoke with the lady sitting behind it.

"Hello! I'd like to enroll these two students please," She smiled easily. After giving us a quick look of disapproval, handed two sheets to Aria. Mekaîle and I were given these sheets and two writing implements that Allen dubbed 'pens'. Glancing over the sheet, I saw it required many responses, the least of all my name. Carefully, in Human Characters, I began to scribe my name, though quickly Aria stopped me.

"Crap! Those names won't work! Death hawk and Monarch? I can't believe we didn't think of this earlier!" Allen pushed his hand through his hair, his eyes whizzing back and forth in an attempt to come up with a solution. "Um, what about....no, that won't work.......um.......Monarchéreon and Deathilore? That way they can keep parts of their true name and it sounds foreign, so no one will ask weird questions about how they act, right?"

"Yah, sure, that sounds fine," Aria nodded her head. With that decided, we continued to fill out the applications, finishing just as a large clammoring bell rang.

"Theres the bell. Lets get to class!" Allen grinned. We passed in the sheets, and Allen and Aria left us to go to their classes, while we stayed to talk with the head mistress. We sat in overstuffed chairs outside of a door, emblazoned with the words "Mrs. MacHaversham" acrossed it. Today would surely be an interesting day.
