I was looking up a goblin for someone today in the twentieth aniversary edition of The Goblin's of Labyrinth by Biran Froud and Terry Jones. And I rarely look at this book because... well, it was the very last book my mother ever bought for me before she passed away. Well, anyway, I noticed two things.
1. Candlewic is NOT an original creation for the Return to Labyrinth Manga. He was created by Brian Froud and can be found in the goblins of Labyrinth book. I'm fairly sure Spittledrum's in there (though not listed as Goblin Mayor) but I didn't feel like looking him up.
And 2.
And this requires some thought on 'What the Hell happened here?!' The Goblins of Labyrinth book talks about a time when life in The Labyrinth was peaceful and good and goblins were anonnymous yet helpful creatures. And the goblin ruler had no power at all, and could only make suggestions and the good suggestions were adopted. And then one day there was 'The Great collapse of the good governance.' Now according to the Return to Labyrinth manga Jareth built The Labyrinth so he had to have been king at the time of this good government. So what the Hell happened?!
