Whoo.. feels like it's been a while since the lat time I did this. Anyway.. plugs!
Now up at Manga Recon is my review of the DVD, Adventures in Voice Acting! It's DVD all about the voice acting industry, covering a variety of topics with hours of interviews. Just about every major US voice actor is interviewed, along with several producers, directors and the like. It's incredibly interesting and everyone should go read the review for more information.
Also from the MR crew, Michelle Smith takes a look at the highly anticipated first volume of Me and The Devil Blues, while Phil Guie reviews Mamoru The Shadow Protector vol. 1.
Elsewhere... Madhouse and Marvel announced that they'll be teaming up to create several short anime series based upon some Marvel superheros. The first one out of the box? Iron Man! I had high hopes for this when it was first announced, but after seeing the preview image I'm less than excited about this project. I was hoping for a heavier revamp and a swank new armor design, but alas, tis not that case here.
In Japan it looks like several popular seinen series are about to reach their end in Afternoon. Mushishi is the biggest name on the list, at least from where I'm sitting. When all is said and done with the series there should be about 10 volumes, Del Rey is currently up to vol. 5.
Speaking of Afternoon.. it's getting a spin off magazine! good! Afternoon is slated to launch in November and will contain a relaunch of Ice Blade, a seinen series that Tokyopop brought to the US in those halcyon days of yore (circa 2000).
Sticking with manga/manwha for a moment, it looks like ChunChu: The Genocide Fiend is still alive and kicking. Information on volume 4, due out in Jan., has recently been posted the Dark Horse website and can be found here.
Those of you attending to the NYAF are in for a treat, Iron Chef Morimoto will be appearing as a gust of honor on the first day. I guess it's too much to hope that Flay will show up and jump him for an episode of Throwdown, huh? I'm suddenly wishing I was attending this event, been a fan of Morimoto's since the Japanese Iron Chef series. Should be fun!
In the live action movie front.. there's a rumor that Japanese director Ryhuei (Versus, Azumi, Godzill: Final Wars) Kitamura has agreed to do a film based upon Clive Barkers recent video game, Jericho. I don't think it's been confirmed yet, but if it's true than this would make it the second Barker based movie Kitamura would have directed, the first being the ill fated Midnight Meat Train adaption.
And finally on Ani-Monday this week.. Street Fighter Alpha. The regular line up of Gurren Lagann and Now and Then should be returning next Monday.
For those in the US, enjoy the long weekend!
