Earlier in the day TOKYOPOP hosted a reception complete with great eats and the coup de gras was a delicious and beautiful 10th Anniversary TOKYOPOP cake. COO and founder Stuart Levy joined our illustrious Publisher Mike Kiley in blowing out the ceremonial candles. So far things have been industry heavy but the doors to the Javits are now opening to the public. Things are about to get crazy. So far, this correspondent has seen more storm troopers than you can shake a lightsaber at!

Update the Third:

And it just keeps getting better! We just hosted the in booth presentation of Eric Wight. We spoke with Eric on the show floor and spent some times exchanging thoughts with his fans just before he sat down to sign copies of his hot new book MY DEAD GIRLFRIEND! And check out the portfolio reviews as well.

It's Saturday and that means today will probably see the largest collection of cross genre enthusiasts ever to wander the halls of the legendary Javits center! Make sure to keep checking for constant updates throughout the day.
Update the Sixth:
This morning we were host to the signing my M. Alice Legrow, creator of “Bizenghast” and cosplayer extraordinaire. Have a look at these sweet pictures:

Update the Seventh:

TOKYOPOP got a first look at DC’s edgy new graphic novel line Minx. On the panel was Director of Marketing - Gayley Carillo, Editor - Shelly Bond, and writer Cecil Castelluci (Boy Proof and The Queen of Cool) and artist Jim Rugg(Street Angel). The line starts off with Cecil and Jim’s book — The Plain Janes, which will be releasing in May. As mentioned by one of the attendees this line of graphic novels seems go after the female market which has been a struggle for DC. However, DC is working hard at getting the word out with an announced quarter million dollar marketing budget. The hope that this female oriented line will surpass the market appeal of DC’s vertigo imprint. The packaging looks very well put together and questions of doing hard cover editions where brought up however, no such plans have yet been confirmed. The books will sport standard color covers with “black, white and gray colors” as mentioned by Ms. Bond. Questions of placement of books, and content came up as librarians, teachers and book sellers were very interested in how to get these books into the hands of their students and consumers. Samples of The Plain Janes books were passed out at the end. I took a quick read and the first think you notice is the panel layout. Very square as in your traditional western comics however, the pacing and story telling is clean and very easy to follow. It will be interesting to see what this line has to offer in the coming months. Although there is nothing on the site yet, I’m sure more information will be coming soon to www.minxbooks.net.
