Rising stars of manga: Questions for contestants

 Are there any others procrastinating like me?

I have been folowing this contest since it started and have been trying to make a manga to enter. Don't get me wrong, I have millions of stories, with strong backgrounds that are intense to read, but I havent finished one. I know how they all would end of course, just haven't finished them. I'm working on one now and I'm trying really hard to finish it, because drawing professionally has been my dream since I was small. Of course I know everyone has heard that story before and everyone has said it. Does anyone know how to keep a healthy balance of writing and drawing so their skill doesnt diminish?

Its hard when you see beautiful work out there, things that are so creative and so astounding that you feel your own is mediocre. Thats why this year I told myself that I would definetely enter  the contest. So right now( now that I have stop whinning and dwindling) I ask this question. Is there any others feeling like this? This shouldnt be so hard but yet I am afraid of rejection.

Tell me your thoughts.

Ah, eep! I'm sorry, I thought you were someone else! Stupid TP site confuses me! >.< Anyway, if you did enter, good job! If not, better luck next time! Sorry for being stupid... =.=;;

Good job that you did enter, finishing a story can be an important step. And, as mentioned, you have nothing to be ashamed of, it's good stuff. I hope you'll stick with it, cause I think you've got a pretty unique voice. That said, and I hope you won't take this the wrong way, but I'm not sure Tokyopop are the publisher for you. Although they interpret manga pretty broadly, I have a suspicion they might consider your style to be outside the realm of what is manga. So, keep a broad aim, and keep drawing. Good luck.

i think every artist/writer fears the rejection of work. its personal isnt it, so you desperatly want people to recognise work you've put your all into. i entered the UK RSOM this year, and havent heard anything back so im assuming that they hated my entry. i'm far too self critical, and i think thats a big part of putting yourself off entering into things like this. my plan is just to keep entering/submitting work until i get some sort of positive result! dont give up, just practice every day.

I'm the same way. For RSOM 6, i waited until the LAST WEEK to make finishing touches and send it out. Btw i sent it out on the DAY IT WAS DUE! >.< i'm working on a new better story to send to rsom and this time i'll do it right!

No, dear. You are far from being alone. I am suffering from the Procrastination Dilema as well. I too have tons of stories, but when it's for something important, I can't quite seem to work. Ugh I hate it so. I have my story for my entry and the summary started.... but I can't seem to get any further (to the scrpiting, thumbing, drawing, inking and toning stages). It worries me because at this rate I will never make it in time. I am not so much afraid of rejection.... I just can't seem to think straight and let the inspiration flow. Hopefully you figure out how to solve your problem! Good Luck!

I have a friend who feels the same way you do..I totally understand. I think it's the pressure of competition that paralyzes. But, you have to be strong, and keep working on it, focus on what you want, and what you feel your work deserves. Submit it, then worry through the waiting period. As for balancing writing and drawing, I think perhaps keep learning...never stop learning, keep challenging yourself with new techniques and ideas. But don't neglect what you already know. Also remember why you love doing it...go back and remind yourself why you are so happy when you draw, or write. Sorry, I've talked too much...lol...hope i helped.
