I did have a friend who was a constant liar. the trick is not to dismiss anything they say and go into great detail over the subject.

Yes, and I remember the event, clearly, even though it happened over 20 years ago. My "friend" started lies about illegal drug usage. She lied to me about a "party" she was to give. But it turned out she "hijacked" me and tried to get me to smoke pot! I refused and told her to take me home or I would call the police. She took me home. I didn't call the cops. But that "friend" & her lies, made my other friends believe I used illegal drugs. It made me so mad I didn't want to talk to anyone. I made new friends. Eventually, my old friends realized they were fed lies, and joined my new group.
