Amazing African Animals
Frogs as silent as the wind
With eyes watching so carefully every movement.
Ballerinas with lustrous eyes, the gazelles gaze gracefully
While watching their young.
Lions roaming their territory,
Challenging any beast that thinks it is better.
Crocodiles crawling on banks to sunbathe
Or navigating the waters for prey.
Cheetahs, the Kentucky Derby entries of the plains,
Running swiftly over the horizon,
Looking for any herbivore too slow for its herd.
Elephants walking boldly on the oasis,
Fearing no carnivore – just mankind.
Impalas raising their thin necks and two horns.
Lion cubs smelling with their adorable noses for the first time
An animal carcass that their mother brought home.
Soft baby birds,
Who loudly squawk all day,
Begging for fat, juicy worms.
The sweet aroma of rotten carcass in the air,
And a new dawn approaching every day
With new hopes and a new life.
The circle of life in Africa continues.
I typed up this poem and I am thinking of using it for 4-H. I'm going to work on it more though...
