Sorry about the lack of posts lately. I've been remarkably busy trying to get Return to Labyrinth Vol. 2 to the printer--something which would be much simpler if this were June or August instead of July. Why's that? Well, if you work in the comic book industry, July really only means one thing: it's time for that yearly pilgrimage down south to the San Diego Comic-Con. For the next four and a half days, I'll be among the 130,000 fanboys and girls sweating in the Southern California heat while trying to score Iron Man swag or seats to the Heroes panel.
Actually, no, I won't be doing that. While most of the people at Comic-Con are shuffling around to panels and events, yours truly will be waving the TOKYOPOP flag (or wearing the t-shirt, at least) and helping to promote our latest round of graphic novels. I was somehow able to get out of portfolio reviewing this year, but I had no such luck when it came to panels. Anyone hoping to catch up with me would do well to hit up at least one of the following panels or signings.
Thursday, July 26 2:00-3:00 p.m.
Writing Prose vs. Manga
TOKYOPOP booth
I'll be moderating this panel in the TOKYOPOP booth with special guests Richard Knaak (Warcraft: The Sunwell Trilogy), Dan Jolley (Alex Unlimited), Ellen Schreiber (Vampire Kisses), Sam Hayes (Afterlife) and Wil Wheaton (Star Trek: the Manga). Yes, THAT Wil Wheaton.
Thursday, July 26 3:30-4:30 p.m.
Warcraft Manga
TOKYOPOP booth
I'll also be moderating this panel and signing with special guests Richard Knaak and Jae-Hwan Kim, the writer and artist of the bestselling Warcraft: Sunwell Trilogy manga. Expect a few surprise announcements concerning Warcraft.
Saturday, July 28 12:30-1:30 p.m.
TOKYOPOP and the Jim Henson Company Present Legends of the Dark Crystal and Return to Labyrinth
Room 10
This is the big one for me. I'll be showing new art and fielding questions about the upcoming volumes of our two Jim Henson Company graphic novels. Joining me will be Halle Stanford (Head of Children's Programming for the Jim Henson Company), Barbara Kesel (writer--Legends of the Dark Crystal), Heidi Arnhold (artist--Legends of the Dark Crystal) and Jake Forbes (writer--Return to Labyrinth). We should have some awesome swag to give away.
Sunday, July 29 12:30-1:30 p.m.
Legends of the Dark Crystal/Return to Labyrinth signing
TOKYOPOP booth
And if you bring said swag to the TOKYOPOP booth on Sunday, you can get it signed by our creative team, including Jae-Hwan Kim, the cover artist for Legends of the Dark Crystal. (And artist of Warcraft, King of Hell, War Angels...do I need to go on?) We'll have other signables available, in case you miss the panel on Saturday.
And of course, when I'm not doing panels, I'll either be staffing the booth or wandering the convention floor, looking for all of you, no doubt. It should be a good time!
Oh, and please join me in once again congratulating Becky Cloonan on her Best New Series Eisner nomination for East Coast Rising! I'll be pulling for her on Friday night. After all, a win for her is also a win for her talented editor, right?
