Neverending Night #7

It's been so long since we've seen a permanent home, I'm not sure we know what that is anymore. I mean, I know we could have a semi normal life if we wanted. We could easily pass as a couple in any society. Our hair dyed every color of the rainbow, skin pale as death, and clothes always as black as night. That wouldn't satisfy us though, because we need to find someone. One of us so revenge can be taken; the other so they can find love and rest in guilt. Home, there's no such think

Now it's many cities, countries, colors, clothes, plains, trains, boats, identities, friends, jobs, and  funds from a troubled father later. It's been an entire year. A year of hoping and being let down every time. Following the scattered trail of a girl they hadn't seen in a long time. People  stared, people gossiped, people yelled. They did all that to them, but people were the only thing that kept them going. Many were mean and kept their distance, but the ones that didn't were the ones that made their journey worth while. It started with stares and ended in hugs and tears. They arrival always the same, their exit always painful.

"A year and still nothing. We've searched whole countries for her!" A tired boy sighed.

"She's close, I can feel it! I think we just aren't in the right places at the right times. We are close though." A smiling girl assured.

The boy and girl sat in a playground. Over the last year they'd grown taller and far wiser. Their hair had grown longer and eyes dimmer. The boy had become harder, lost his hope for life and love. He'd died on the inside many months before where the journey had started. The girl had become sweeter, hope filled and ready for love. She'd only become nicer since the year ago that the chase started.

Bleu and Pero stared at the swings across from them. They kicked the pebbles under their feet as they moved in a slow circle around the merry-go-round. Polar opposites that had, not long ago, been undeniably the same. It pained them now to think about the times when people had compared them to one another in a loving manner.

"It's been a year since she left! How are we close? You've been saying that for the past eleven months! You just wish we were close! You wish that you could see here again! Let me tell you something though, it's not going to happen just because you hope it does!" Pero snapped, eyes scanning the ground.

Bleu whirled around and glared at Pero, "We are to close! You just don't want to find her because that means I have someone to love and you don't! Get over it, Zero is dead and Rose is going to be found and moment! Can't you just let me be happy?"

"Don't you remember  who killed Zero?"

"No one did, it was an accident."

"You wish it was an accident!"

"No, you wish it was someone's fault!"

"Stop acting like you're original when you just keep turning around my words!"

"I didn't kill Zero!"

"I never said you did!"

Bleu jumped across the merry-go-round knocking Pero to the ground. She punched him in the face. He rolled her onto her back and with one hit, she was out. He stood up and brushed the dust off his clothes. This conversation had been a regular for the two of them. It happened once everyday.

Over the last year they'd slowly grown apart. It didn't take a genius to see they'd kill each other soon. Pero shrugged and walked from the playground in the direction of their newest friend's house. The house where they'd be staying for the short while they were in the city. He knew Bleu would be fine, no one in the city would be brave enough to go near her even while she was unconscious. Out of all the cities they'd been to Pero hated this one the most. The only people who hadn't been scared of them here were people that knew the man that had given them money for the past months.

Pero decided that going back to the place they called "home" for the week would be too annoying. He'd have to explain again about how he knocked Bleu out and why he'd done it and where he'd left her. He didn't need that. With a quick left and a mile walk he was in the middle of a city that wished he didn't exist. From shop windows people stared. Pero had plenty of room on the sidewalk as everyone shied away.

He spit at them and made his way down an alley. He leaned against the wall of the nearest building and stared up at the dark sky. He didn't know why he even tried, this pathetic city wouldn't be the last they ever visited, and he was tired of it.

A scream echoed from somewhere farther into the alley. Pero sighed to himself and went to see what it was. He rounded a corner into a dark part of the alley and gasped. In front of him were three large men surrounding a girl on the ground. The girl had pale skin and pink hair.

"Stop! Please! I didn't do anything to you! I'm just trying to go home!" The girl yelled.

"Well, you are a pretty little thing and we wouldn't want to waste a meeting like this." One of the men smirked.

Apparently the city wasn't as spineless as he'd thought. Pero crept forward and reached out to the girl unconsciously, "Rose? Is that you?"

The girl's head snapped back to view Pero. She scrambled away from the distracted men and to Pero's feet. She hid behind him and cried to herself. Pero was still in shock when the men came out of it.

"Hey! That isn't yours! We found her first and I'd love it if you handed her over." One of the guys took a step forward.

This whole scene seemed to be a bit familiar to Pero. The men, Rose, the alley it always happened in, and the way Pero moved forward to protect her. Pero ran at the men and Rose dived into the hollow darkness to hide from everything.

Pero was thrown backwards beside Rose. He looked into the darkness and smiled at her, "I know where I've seen this before. I guess I knew it would happen even if we did run away. It just took a year or two. I can't even remember how long it's been. Listen, we're staying with the Lace's. I know you know where that is. Tell Bleu that the guilt will eat her alive for what she did to Zero. I hope you two live happily for a long time."

Rose reached out to Pero, but he was up again and charging the men. With a gunshot and a silent scream it was all over. Rose crawled through the darkness and away from the all too familiar death that surrounded their group always. That surrounded them for eternity.

Sorry it took me so long. My life if hectic right now. My GF broke up with me a while ago and I just found out I'm having an affair with a married man...and I know his GF and child. NN will be ending soon...sorry...I was going to make it last for 20 chapters...but as you can see that would be kind of hard to do. So this is MUCH MUCH MUCH shorter than YMMB...and nowhere near as good. But we all knew the end had to come sometimes.
