the wait
Raindrops washed away my fear,
For he should return early morning.
Nestled deep in my bed I await.
I smell him on the pillows and sheets.
His smile behind my eyelids,
How I've missed him so...
Deep in sleep I toss and turn.
Wakened suddenly by his touch.
Is it him? Opening my eyes I see,
I see ... the curtains flowing lightly.
My eyes adjust to see nothing...
That morning I lay, he enters.
Smelling the air about, he looks at me.
Slowly he moves to our bed.
He caresses the corner of my pillow.
Looking into my eyes, tears drop where I lay.
He picks up the photo of him and me from the dresser,
looks at it and places it back.
He whispers softly, "I'll love you ... forever."
With that I was freed.
He takes a flower from the vase,
The petals he throws upon the bed.
His final words stung. "Till death did we part."
