Undertown: The Script -- BK 1 page 4

PAGE FOUR

Panel One: Full-tier establishing shot of the exterior of a hospital, specifically the ER entrance. There should be an ambulance out front and a sign that says EMERGENCY. It's nighttime.

Panel Two: Here is our first shot of Sama. He's standing in a long, empty hospital corridor. He's holding his teddy bear by its tiny stuffed arm, supporting it just above the ground so that it looks like it's standing next to Sama. Sama is sad, but the tears that streak and stain his face do not appear until he crosses into Undertown.

Benches line the wall outside the doors to the patients' rooms. Jake, this might be hard to capture in a line drawing, but I'd like this hall to have that sterile feeling that comes with bright fluorescent light, the kind that turn the scene almost green. Clinical. Lonely. Think J.G. Ballard (specifically this book cover: http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/0312306091/ref=sib_dp_pt/102-3553463-1831355#reader-link).

One of the nice things about writing comics in the Internet Age is that it's easy to share reference photos with your collaborating artist by simply including a link in the script. It's interesting to look at the book cover I sent Jake and see how he took inspiration from it while making it his own.
