Panel One: Sama walks over to his dad's door. It's cracked open slightly, although we can't see in.
These balloons should be cut off by the panel borders so that they are clipped and even a bit hard to read, suggesting that Sama's only hearing bits and pieces. Specifically the beginning of the doctor's first line and the end of his last should be cut off BY THE PANELS. It's not that he's trailing off, it's that Sama can't hear it all. These balloons all have tails that tuck into the door; we can only figure out who is speaking by the context of what they say.
1/DOC: that's all we know.
2/MOM: I ... I don't even know what congestive heart failure means. Isn't there anything you can tell me?
3/DOC: We'll run tests. I don't want to say much before
Panel Two: Sama slumps down next to the door, sliding to the floor. Clipped bottoms of balloons are above him (again, we can't see everything that is listed below). He looks at his teddy bear and speaks.
4/DOC: We'll know more in a couple days.
5/MOM: Thank you, doctor.
6/SAMA: What's happening, Eddie?
Panel Three: More talking to his bear. Whatever Sama is doing in this panel, should help establish his relationship with the bear. He's treating it as if believed it were alive and could answer him.
7/SAMA: It's not fair. I'm not stupid, just 'cause I'm a kid. I want to help.
Panel Four: Sama turns, surprised but wary, and looks at the man who speaks to him off panel.
8/VOICE (OFF): There is something you can do.
I changed a line in panel three to echo the same line that is said at the end of the book. I feel lucky to have been able to make changes like that!
