Without warning, Phiblizo appears and attacks Chaos Dragon Gaav. He kidnaps Gourry by using the Sword of Light and taunts Lina to join them in Sairaag, a city that is now a barren wasteland with only a single Flagoon since the demon's resurrection. But Lina doesn't have time to think about the consequences--she has to settle things with the Hellmaster once and for all!
Lina Inverse
Although not generally heroic, this red-haired, flat-chested teenage sorceress, otherwise known as 'Bandit Killer' is highly determined and motivated to fulfill her personal mission in life: Enriching herself. Lina is not limited to sorcery and has rather decent sword skills. However, she is best known for her powerful Black Magic spells (especially Dragon Slave) and is not afraid to use 'em. Her typical M.O. is to assault bandits, blow them to kingdom come, and ensure that their treasure rests in worthier hands (as in, hers).
Gourry Gabriev
Lina once described him as having 'the strength of a troll and the brains of a jellyfish,' which is a more-than-astute assessment. Gourry, a reasonably good-looking blond swordsman and manly character, is in fact quite dense. Despite Gourry's obtuseness, he becomes a loyal ally and friend with the added redeeming virtue of being an excellent swordsman with great physical strength. He is also the inheritor of the Sword of Light, an ancient magic weapon that Lina instantly covets for herself.
Zelgadis Greywers
Zelgadis, who is one-third human, one-third demon, and one-third golem is extremely durable, yet quite self-loathing. Though often cold, callous, and self-obsessed, he is also brave, strong-willed, and quite resourceful. His main weakness is a stand-alone complex. Zelgadis, whose weapon is a sword, is both a warrior of great skill and a sorcerer of considerable power, specializing in Shamanic Magic.
Rezo, the Red Priest
Rezo, the main villain of the first arc of the story, is a powerful long-lived priest known as one of the five great wise men of the age, renowned for healing the sick and poor. Ironically, this master miracle-maker, who has been blind from birth, is able to cure the blindness of others, yet unable to cure his own. Consequently Rezo, with an over-developed obsession with his own affliction, seeks the raw magical power to overcome the great force behind his blindness.
Hajime Kanzaka
Hajime Kanzaka wrote the original Slayers novel series which gave birth to the runaway manga and anime franchise. The first Slayers text novel material began its serialized run in Japan's Dragon magazine in September, 1989.
He has also been involved with numerous subsequent Slayers and Lost Universe manga- and anime-related projects.

is it Manga or a written Novel...either way the anime was awsome and i can't wait to get the series in written form.

Well, if they aren't planning to release the others, I think it's a cruel joke for them to have volumes 9-15 numbered there after the first 8.

Slayers is so great. Does anyone know if they'll translate the rest of the volumes? I hope they do, and I hope they give the translators a bonus because the sarcasm and tones are great, so well done!

WAA! My heart did a dance for joy when I saw volumes 7 and 8 in the bookstore! This is such a good series, and it will always hold a special place in my heart since Slayers was the first anime I seriously got into. I've been able to track down a few of the novels in the original Japanese, but alas, kanji no youmu koto wa totemo warui da! >.< I really REALLY hope Tokyopop increases the advertising effort with this series and finishes what they started in translating the books!!!

I ordered the two most recent installments nearly a year ago and they were delayed time and time again for various reasons. To be honest, when the box arrived, I nearly wrote "return to sender" and ignored them all together. Even though I've somewhat abandoned the series, I went ahead and read them both... and I'm glad I did. Despite the English version's simplified style, the story kept me interested. For that reason, I hope they continue with the next arc. Basically we've been given the text version of the first two arcs... what we can see in the anime and for the most part, the manga. I'd like to read to a point where the stories part ways, but the English manga was cancelled just before Aqua Lord and it appears the novels may suffer the same fate.

...I couldn't remember the password to my old account. But, I'm so glad to see these out. I see people still complaining about the advertising, but as we battled for these books and advertisement for them for a few years, I don't see the ads changing any time soon. I'm just glad that these books have been released. I hope that the sales do well enough to encourage them to release the next plot arc. For those interested in helping promote this series, check out the journal at irk.deviantart.com for Slayers Challenge notices. Also at slayerschallenge.deviantart.com and itachikiritsu.deviantart.com . Because of these gatherings, these books were released. While irk and I don't have the time to run slayers challenge anymore, people are always free to start their own organization. Email me at doomchocobo at aol dot com with a clear subject title if you want us to help promote your gathering for Slayers. Thank you, both to fellow fans who helped make this possible, and to Tokyopop itself for listening to its consumers.
