“GIRLFRIEND? What are you talking about? if your taking about Avelen being my girlfriend, then think again."
“What’s there to lie about son? She’s gorgeous like the beautiful crystal clear summer skies, she’s kind, considerate, honest, and polite, an excellent cook and she’s not bad at doing the house work!” Pops said while waving he’s hand about in the air while holding onto a fork with some pancake on it.
I wasn’t really paying attention to what he was saying I was more concerned about what would happen to the pancake on his fork, I was hoping he wouldn’t flick it on the floor and make a mess also it would be a waste of food and I would be the one who would have to clean it up with some paper towels.
Thankfully thought pops didn’t flick it on the floor every where and I sighed with relief.
“oh is there anything I missed about the lovely young lady you brought home with you last night?” pops added.
“No-no you didn’t miss anything, nothing at all.” I walked over to the gleaming white fridge in the amazingly clean kitchen which really surprised me. I had never seen a kitchen this clean before in my whole entire life! Avelen must have cleaned the place up after she finished cooking breakfast.
I went to grab the carton of pura milk from the fridge door and noticed that we where all out, nothing not a single drop of milk left.
I sighed heavily as I closed the fridge door. It looked as though it was a brand new fridge.
“That’s just great, where out of milk” I opened up the food cupboard and got out the bread that was almost out of date, it was still eatable though.
Avelen popped her head around the corner at the top of the stairs and yelled out over the vacuum cleaner.
“I CAN GO DOWN TO THE STORE AND GET SOME MORE MILK IF YOU WANT ME TO!” yelled Avelen.
I could only just figure out what she was saying and replied with a “no thank you it’s fine I can live with having toast.” Having a glass of milk was one of my main breakfast foods. I would wake up every morning bright and early about six, six thirty every day and have a glass of pura milk. It was one of my favorite drinks to have, I’m sure I could survive one day with out having one glass of milk.
“Yo Leon! There are some extra pancakes in the fridge that Avelen cooked up if you wanted any” said dad from the kitchen table.
“Nah, I’m fine I think I’ll pass remember the last time we tried to make pancakes for breakfast?”
Pops thought for a moment and then gave an awful look on his face with his tongue sticking all the way out as far as it could reach.
“Yup! I remember alright, we put too much of every ingredient in and it tasted awful! But let me tell you these are the best pancakes I’ve had in years!’ Pops took another bite of his pancakes and started chewing away happily.
“I’m sure they are. I’m sure they are.” I lent back on the bench and waited for the toast to pop out of the toaster, again, even the toaster looked brand new. The only reason I didn’t want some of Avelen’s Pancakes was to be safe. Who knows maybe she put a mind control spell on it. Maybe she’s not the cute and innocent little angel from above that Pops keeps telling me about. After a short while the toast popped and vacuum turned off, Avelen must have finished cleaning upstairs bedrooms.
I toasted my bread with peanut butter and pored out a glass of orange juice and sat down at the table. Pops had almost finished eating he’s surprising delicious pancakes. He’ll be sorry when Avelen puts her mind control spell to work and gets HIM to do all the dirty work around here.
Avelen gracefully Tipp toed down the stairs humming that same tune again, that tune I was so familiar with and yet I could never remember what song it was or where I had heard it from.
Avelen smiled happily and said “ok! All the cleaning is done! All I have to do now is the dusting! I don’t mean to be rude or anything but this place is covered head to toe in dust!” She gently leaned the broom against one of the many walls in this old house.
“I know, I know it’s pretty filthy but with my back playing up on me like it has been over the past month or so, reaching to a high place is a no go for me honey.”
Pops said with a huge grin on his face. But still that wasn’t a good enough reason on why he shouldn’t do the rest of the dusting in all of the other LOWER parts. I had a funny feeling that he was up to something, but I couldn’t quite get what he was planning.
It was soon time for Pops to get the horse and cart all saddled up and ready to go. He jumped on to the drivers seat trying to act young and not his age and made a loud groaning sound but apart from that he seemed to be alright.
“Are you going to be alright pops? You don’t want me to come with you?”
Avelen shook her head from side to side remember your mission, Leon?
A voice inside my head spoke as if my self conscious had a mind of its own.
Who’s that!? I replied to the strange voice.
It’s meee… silly! Don’t you recognize my voice when you hear it?
You? It’s you Avelen? I asked with curiosity.
Yay! You got it right! Replied Avelen happily with a smile on her face and she chuckled lightly.
“Nope son I’ll be right to travel for a few days no problem and besides if you came along with me who’s left to feed the animals and clean the house while where gone and vandals and low life thieves might decide to move in while where away! Ever stop to think about that?”
I shook my head and said no I guess I was more worried about his health and safe keeping.
We said goodbye to each other and pops rode of into the early morning sun. Me and Avelen stood there next to each other not saying anything that didn’t mind me at all as I gazed into the distance I could no longer see Pops anymore, just the blinding bright early morning sun was left in my sight. I sighed heavily again and wondered if I would ever see him again after I accompany Avelen to the magical realm of Earth. I even wondered if I was even the right person for the job and if I would make it out of there alive. Only naturally now I would start to worry about the downside of things.
I started to walk slowly back towards the old farm house and kicked a small loose grey pebble on the ground. It didn’t go very far, only a couple of bounces and then it came to a halt in a small puddle of dirty muddy water. I didn’t realize it before but the grass was moist and the rocky path was all muddy and slippery. I guessed it must have rained lightly last night with out me noticing it. Normally I would wake up at an instant but I must have been sound asleep. Work must’ve been more tiresome then I thought it was.
I turned around to see that Avelen was walking slowly behind me with her arms hidings behind her back.
“What’s the matter? Is anything wrong?” I stopped walking towards the old farm house and turned around to come face to face with Avelen.
“Oh no silly, it’s nothing at all, you where just wondering how I was able to read your mind, weren’t you? Leon” Avelen smiled shyly.
“Not really I figure you learnt that small but powerful trick when you where’re young I suppose? I turned back around and started to walk back towards the house. I found another loose pebble to kick, this time it went a little further then the last time. It landed towards the side of the muddy slippery path.
“I get it now, you’re worried about Pops are you?” Avelen said as she was following me slowly behind me again.
“You could say that.” I said with out turning my head around.
“Not to worry I already gave him a safe traveling charm to him before he left/”
“Does he know about it?” I asked this time turning my head.
“Nope, I put it in one of his backpacks. It’s a small but powerful charm to keep the holder safe from harm. It protected me once from getting lost back home when I was young. I asked someone for help even though now one around to hear it, but do you want to know what happened next?”
“Not really” I said hopefully that Avelen wouldn’t continue her story.
“Out of now where I saw a bright shinning yellow figure standing in front of me it was small and shaped like a dog from this world only prettier.”
I sighed and continued walking to the house. Avelen told me that the figure that she was talking about wasn’t any ordinary figure. But it was the spirit of the forest she was lost in. it didn’t say thing to her, that probably means he or she can’t talk. She also mentioned about the spirit turning around and started to walk away from her. As a reflect I suppose you would call it she got frightened and called out to the spirit to wait for her. The spirit just kept on walking in front of her turning around occasionally to make sure she was following.
Eventually Avelen noticed the path that she was following before and was able to find her way back to her village. Avelen said she never got to thank the spirit properly and never saw it again she added that if she where to ever fined the forest spirit again she would make sure that she would thank the spirit for helping her out that day.
“Hey didn’t you say that the seal that sealed away the hell king broke at two minutes past midnight last night?” I suddenly remembered that and I started to panic but I wasn’t sure why though. I mean it isn’t really MY home that was being destroyed.
“OH NO! I TOTALLY FORGOT ABOUT THAT! There was so much going on that I completely forgot about it!” Avelen grabbed my arm and we were’re running full speed ahead towards the house.
“QUICKLY! WE HAVE TO HURRY BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE! QUICKLY CALL YOU’R PEGASUS!” Avelen yelled as we we’re quickly closing in to the house.
“Alright.” I took out the small whistle that Avelen gave me when we first met after my first flying lesson. I blew the whistle as hard as I could and still the whistle didn’t make much noise but instantly I could see Trevino In the sky, flying straight to wards us. I had never seen Trevino fly that fast before. Trevino didn’t stop as we grabbed on with Avelen ridding at the front. I almost fell off on the other side but caught my balance. I realized that we where higher then the planes could go. I was having trouble breathing a little due to the thin atmosphere around us.
“Take a deep breath and hold it until we get through this cloud!” Avelen told me so I did as I was told and took a deep breath and held it for as long as I could.
I saw the grey dark clouds rush pass me in a flash. It was cold and windy and one moment I thought I lost my consciousness but the ruff flying woke me up.
I never let go of my breath until Avelen told me to. I wasn’t sure how much longer I could go. All of a sudden there were no clouds rushing past me I heard Avelen told me I could breathe again. I suppose it wasn’t that long that I had to hold my breath for. I tilted my head from behind Avelen and opened my eyes only to find what I’d thought would be there wasn’t I’d expected there to be clouds below us to replace the hard ground but there wasn’t. To my surprise there were beautifully crystal clear skies all around me, above and below me. I looked down and saw a couple of flash looking building and a few houses and green farms that was being occupied by what seemed to be horses. We were so high in the sky that the entire tall lush’s tress where as big as a small bucket and you could only just barely see the animals below us.
Ok. Now I was really confused. Where we still on planet earth? I didn’t remember having so many neighbors close by. It was like being in a dream.
“Where are we!” I asked Avelen from behind.
“Where in Velinoe! My home town!” Avelen pointed down to the ground to a small town house with a beautiful garden around it.
“You see that house!? That’s where my friend lives!”
I didn’t say anything. Friend? I wondered if Avelen’s friend would be fairy angel just like her or would she be different like an elf or maybe even a strong sorcerer.
I just simply nodded and stayed quiet until we came to this enormous castle in the middle of now where. It would’ve been the biggest building I had seen in my whole entire life.
“What’s that building down there?” I asked Avelen.
“That’s the kings castle where we’re going now!” Replied Avelen.
“We’re going to the kings castle!?” I answered in great disbelief. The king? I’ve never been inside a castle let alone met a real live king! Now days king where known as the Lord Mare I had never seen one up close before.
I wondered if the king would be a cranky king like in those old children’s fairy tale books your parents would read to you before you went to bed. I wondered if he wore a giant gold crown and giant dogs for guards. I was really starting to get nervous. I felt the world around spinning around and around in circles but the bumpy landing that Trevino made woke me up again and everything stopped spinning around, making me feel dizzy.
I mounted Trevino followed by Avelen. We had landed out side the palace bridge which had an enormous gate to the front entrance. Only both the guards on the inside and on the outside of the gate could open it other wise you had no hope of getting in unless you where very powerful. I wondered if I was the only human in this world or where there others just like me. I would definitely feel a lot more comfortable if I had a friend like Luke or Mark with me I would definitely fell more up to the challenge then if I had company who actually new me. I knew all ready that this was a bad idea coming here with Avelen I had a bad feeling in my stomach as if it where trying to warn me not to go in.
