My friend came to work & he was all like, check this out. he handed me his copy of Sokora Refugees, vol. 1. (He just bought it.) i said, "the cover is not bad, but it looks like it will be on the kiddish side." (this next part WAS NOT MENT TO BE SEXEST.) (i hate to be stereo-typical but lets face it, normally girls don't draw girls that are more endowed then normal.) (ALSO i have this friend that is a girl - almost 3 years ago, she said this - but we were at a comic shop & we were looking at the figures & she was like guys are such pigs, those breast are way to big to be real.) (so anyways back to the story) then my friend said "you will never guess that not only is it writen by a girl it was also drawn by one. i can't believe that a girl would draw some of those poses." ( not that it matters! it turns out he was wrong; it was just drawn by a girl; wrote by a guy.) As i looked through it & i have to agree with him. i am like wow this is drawn well. what more can i say the Introduction is correct, "Sokora Refugees, the fan-service spectacular," i must say the fan service is good but still managed to keep it pg13. (boo! i don't care if that is unbearably juvenile either!) i also must say that for the story, it seems a little on the goofy side but the Genre is Fantasy, comedy. This is a very entertaining and impressive graphic novel. I really did not stop and think about the art very much during my reading of this book, and I mean that as a compliment: the art effectively immersed me in the story and got me interested in the characters. it was really neat to see a switch between really cartoony then back to all serious.
