Time, and lots of it

Well I've been off school for about a month now and I will start summer classes in two weeks. What have I been doing for a month? Nope! Sadly it hasn't been focused on catching up on manga; mainly due to the fact that I now have to wait for most of the titles I've been reading to come out with the next volumes. But what I have been doing is catching up on my anime and finding new ones to watch. I have never been very up to date with anime coming out since I usually was more focused on my manga but since I have been around my club mates I've gotten interested in anime again. Here are some of the anime I've been watching:

Venus Versus Virus: This series is also a manga that has been licensed by Seven Seas and the first volume will be released in either June or July. The series starts with characters Lucia and Sumire who work at a jewel and clothing store called Venus Vangard. What normal people don't know is the fact that the store is just a cover for their real job which is to exterminate viruses. Viruses are former humans who have had their souls stolen by other viruses. Lucia uses a gun to hunt these viruses but with special ammo that contains what can be referred as antidote. The bullets she uses are filled with anti-bodies that kill the virus. Watching the anime you would probably wonder why Sumire is working with Lucia since she is clearly not cut out for the job. But by the end of the first episode it is revealed that Sumire has a special ability that makes her very useful for the business. The series is only 12 episodes long and has a bit of a cliffhanger ending. Overall it was a short but sweet anime to watch. I truly enjoyed it and can't wait for the manga to come out and I'm sure that the anime will be licensed for america sometime in the future.

Kashimashi ~Girl Meets Girl~: The manga for this series had already been released and on the second volume. The anime has followed the maga as far as I've seen except for a few details. Hazumu is the main character and the story starts with him climbing the Kashimashi mountain in an effort to forget being rejected by the girl he had a crush on. When he reaches the top he looks over the city and to the darkened sky to see what he believes is a shooting star but is actually a spaceship that crashes on top of him. The alien that piloted the ship regenerates his body but makes a vital mistake; Hazumu goes from a he to a she with no way of changing him back. Now Hazumu has to figure out how to live as a girl all while the alien comes to live with and study her along with his ship that he has turned into a girl. All this gets even more complicated when both the girl that rejected Hazumu and her childhood friend seems to have a growing interests in her. The story is a strange take on the typical love triangle. I liked the story even though it was a soft love story (I hate to admit it but I'm a closeted romantic ><).

Kurau Phantom Memory: This series has just been released in the US for sale (I don't know where though ><). Kurau is set in the year 2100 where people live on colonies on the moon as well as live on the earth. Research is being done on the moon to find new sources of energy and the latest is called Rynax. Kurau's father is a scientist that is working on these projects and when Kurau was 12 she went with her father to watch his experiments. But during the experiment something goes wrong and Kurau is hit by twin streams of this energy and becomes fused with it. Turns out that Rynax is a type of alien life form and now Kurau has given supernatural abilities. Kurau grows up to be the best agent for hire on earth buts is yearning for something more; she is missing her pair. All rynax have pairs that live with them for life. One night Kurau's pair finally comes to her (who she names Christmas) but now the police and the government are after her and now they are on the run. I don't normally go for science fiction but this series is worth a look.

I won't go into the other series (maybe next time) but will list them. Other anime that are worth a look,

Kaibutsu Oujo (Monster Princess) - very funny and interesting

Murder Princess - Both the anime and manga are very good, I got hooked very quickly

Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito - An older series that I found interesting, confusing, and funny. The ending was bittersweet but the series overall was pretty good. Definitely Not for kids.

I'll probably be able to update on both anime and manga next time since I've gotten some new manga I haven't read yet and more anime I need to watch. There will definitely be manga updates within the next few weeks since there are some new volumes and series coming out ^_^.

See ya next time!
