Chapter One I threw my backpack out the window, stepped out onto the garage roof, and then climbed down the tree right next to it. Now I know what you’re thinking, oh she's going out to some party, and let me tell you, you couldn't be any more wrong. I never have been invited to a party in my life, and that's not an exaggeration, unless you want to count family or family friends parties. So you're probably wondering what I'm doing out in the middle of the night on a Friday. Okay, you might think this is really weird, but there's this lake a couple of blocks from my house and I like to go by there at night to relax and sometimes get in the mood to draw. A bit strange, I get it, but hey that's what I enjoy doing. I couldn’t believe how cold it was tonight and it was only November. It seriously felt like below zero and here I was with my black Capri pants, a tang top with my Jack Skellington sweater, and my brand new custom made FullMetal Alchemist converse. Actually, I had got them two weeks ago because my birthday was coming up in three days. It was actually my sixteenth birthday, which I guess most girls would celebrate their Sweet Sixteen or whatever, but to me I just saw it as a form to spend loads of money on one stupid night. As I began to walk down to the lake, I could already hear a party going on. The music was blasting out of the house, and actually I'm not too fond of pop or hip-hop, I feel it has no point to it, but then again that's just one persons' opinion. I was about a block away from where the party was and I knew automatically what I smelt was alcohol. For some reason I just can’t comprehend the point of alcohol, I personally never tried it and I’m pretty sure there’s some time till I do, and the reason for that is because it only makes people do idiotic things and act pathetic. That's one reason I don't really mind that I'm not invited to parties. As I walked further down I saw a girl and guy making out and touching each other. And there you have it folks, reason number two I'm glad people don't invite me. I mean all they do is hook-up, parties seriously have no meaning. "Hey there, girly." Oh no, this is what I always try to avoid most of all, the drunk guys at parties. All they really want is to get into someone's pants. I mean the two guys in front of me we're cute but one, they were drunk, and two I'm no tramp. "Where do you think your going?" the tall blond asked. "Yeah, where are you going lovely? How about I get you a cold beer and show you a great time." This guy wasn't as tall as the other and he had dirty blond hair. "No thanks, I'm on my way uh...home?" Oh that was a nice one Amelia, bet you can get yourself out of any dilemma, I thought. "Really? Well then I can walk you home and then you could invite me in." The blond one was smiled teasingly at me. He probably though I would actually accept his offer because he was so ‘hot’, he was really getting on my nerves. "No, really I can walk home by myself." Now, what happened next I really wasn't expecting. The blonde grabbed my wrist, wrapped his free arm around my waist and pressed his lips against mine. The next thing I know, he's pushing me up against a tree. I couldn't think straight, so I let my reflexes take over. I kicked him in the place it hurts a guy the most and bolted for dear life. I could still hear him screaming even when I was a blocks away. Honestly I couldn’t believe that my first kiss was with some drunken, obnoxious dumb guy, I wasn’t even acquainted with. And yes, I have never been kissed before and the fact that it was nothing close to what I expected got me frustrated. Suddenly I realized that I had already reached the lake. Almost instantly, the lake seemed to sooth me. I loved how it was always peaceful at night with the moon glistening over the still water, unlike when there are loud screaming kids jumping in and adults chatting away. I think the first time I ever saw it like this was back when my grandmother passed away. To me, she was the only one that really understood me for who I was and not what my family was trying to mold me into. The night of her burial, it was pouring rain and it was actually a few days before my thirteenth birthday. I clearly remember how devastated I was that night, I hadran out of my house and ran as far as my legs would carry me. I eventually ran pass the trees and ended up here. Now back then, I had never seen it as peaceful as it was that night. The sight of the a thousand pounding rain drops against the surface of the lake amazed me. And it was from then on that mostly every Friday I would come down here. I sat down right on the docks and relaxed. I felt completely tired and short of breath from running, ugh I am so anti-athletic. Not until that moment had I realized that it was a full moon, and I slowly leaned back and looked up at the sky. Suddenly a cold breeze came by and I felt it get colder, then again it could have just been me. But then I got this chill down my back and the feeling that someone was watching me. Oh, I guess now would be a good time to tell you that I am one hugely paranoid person. At one point I'll be all like someone’s here or no someone’s over there and I'll sound like a lunatic. Yet right now, at this moment, I could almost sense someone staring at me and that sent a shiver throughout my whole body. I shot up into a sitting position and then decided to just stand up. I could have sworn I got a glance of something move in the trees. Okay Amelia, take deep breathes and calm down, your just hallucinating, yeah that’s probably it. I heard a branch crack, "Hell--ooo, anyone there?" Again I saw something move. And that's when I saw them, the two crimson red eyes staring at me from within the trees. WHAT THE! I attempted to run but my legs wouldn’t budge, then of course my mouth forgot how to work so I couldn’t scream. My eyes were wide open with fear and I felt myself gasping for air, but the icy cold air clogged up my throat. Then it hit me, an enormous pain in my head and at the side of my stomach. The pain was too vast to bear, my head felt it was going to be flattened to mush and my stomach felt like it was on the verge of bursting. Finally I let out the scream that had gotten stuck in my throat. The pain seemed to be getting progressively worse and it got to the point where I felt I would rather be better off dead. Everything started to spin as I felt warm tears fall down my cheeks. But suddenly through my tear blurred vision, I made out a figure coming towards me. At first I was afraid that it was the figure from the trees but I still tried to tell out, since the pain was too unbearable for me to handle. I tried to tell it to help me but the scream had taken everything out of me. Somehow, it knew what I was trying to get out. Soon I saw that it was a man. He slowly put his hand over my forehead and the over my stomach and the pain slowly seemed to fade. I didn't know what happened next…everything turned black.
