Son of a Dragon (3)

The next day Drake was lying in the bay after finishing helping some neighbors with there fishing.  For some reason the fish on the Golden Eye side were scarce, causing the town to take to ship repair for income.  However some fishers remained and from time to time hired Drake to herd the fish into the nets.  Being a quick swimmer and shooting out an electric charged made it easy for the half dragon.  However it annoyed the other towns on the other side of the bay.  Though Drake honestly didn’t know why; he’d do the same for some coin and fish, he had to eat to.

His thoughts were interrupted from a group of voices whispering back and forth.  The half dragon knew it wasn’t boat or he’d feel the wake rock him.  So someone was out here with him.  Pulling his head back in the water to see who was behind him.  A pair of eyes and horns attached to a scaly bronze head stared back at him.

It raised his out of the water giving a toothy grin.  “Hi.”

Drake blinked and for a few seconds was quiet.  “Hi,” he said slowly.

“Are you Drake?” it asked curiosity.

Become a little dizzy from holding his head back, Drake turned and started to tread water.  He could now see that this young dragon wasn’t alone.  Four more dragons bobbed in the water, most of them more exposed then the others.

“”Of course he is,” the closest to the one that spoke replied with some frustration in his voice, in the language of dragons.

“Junior,” another snapped with odd tranquil voice.  “Be nice to Nicholas”

“Don’t call me that, Sophie,” Junior shot back. He looked at Drake.  “Still, its better then his name.”

“Let’s just say that my mom and dad aren’t the creative types,” Drake said in the dragon language.

Junior seemed to take a step back at this, but not Nicholas.  “Tell us about it.”

The other two bronze dragons had circled around and were now pulling at Drake’s wings.  “Such nice wings, and look at his scales there so bright,” one said.

“His fin is not that great.  No wonder you cover it with your hair,” the other giggled.  “Oh feel his hair it’s so soft.”

Drake pulled away from the two but Nicholas was following.  This was just a little overwhelming for Drake; the half dragon had never seen another dragon except his father up close, even on his travels.  Now five young dragons were surrounding him.  “I don’t want to seem rude but who are you?”

“Oh sorry,” Sophie replied bowing her head a little.  “I’m Sophie and this is Nicholas, and those two are Clara and Conna, and that is Dartilist, but everyone calls him Junior.”

“That’s weird my dad has the same name,” Drake said.

“Drake, don’t you know, we have the same father, and you are brother,” Nicholas said as if it was common knowledge.

As Drake forgot to continue to swim, a large dragon forced its way out the water with incredible speed.  Its body shone in the light you could almost see it muscles on it skinny body.  Landing roughly in the water splash on the dragons, and brought Drake back to reality. The new bronzed dragon towered over the others its head look down on every one.

“Father,” the young dragons said together.

“Dad,” Drake said separately.  His father’s face was obviously sad hearing Drake.

“I have brothers and sisters,” Drake repeated what he learned to his father.  “And you never told me.”

“Half brothers and sisters,” Junior put in, but was ignored.

“I was going to tell you when you were older,” Dartilist said.

“Older, I’m 25 and there what?” waving his claw at young dragons.

“I’m 12 by human standers,” Nicholas helped, “the others are 15.”

Drake stared up at his father, and in response Dartilist only looked unsure of what to do next.  Sinking into the water, Drake gave a push out of the water and flapped his wings to gain air.  Turning he flew strait towards land, without a word.

“Come on lets go home,” Dartilist said sadly to his other children.

“Father, how could you and human make a baby?” Nicholas asked.  Somewhere in the direction of Drake someone shouted out “my mind it burns,” but no one was there.

I'm not sure how I'd react to such news.
