Shade: Ch. 1 First Step part2

Shade was quiet the rest of the ride there they soon parked outside the hospital. Sakura got out of the car and walked to Shade who just stood with the door opened. He looked at the hospital, almost focused on one spot.

"Shade," Sakura broke out the panther out of his trance, "we can’t find out what’s wrong with you if you don’t go in."

Shade looked at her, his ears now showing the sadness again. "Before we go in I must ask for something strange." Shade spoke softly. "I want you to stay with me until I’m out."

"Shade I wasn’t just going to leave you," Sakura replied. "What’s wrong, do you remember something about this hospital?"

Shade shook his head. "I can not explain it, I guess I am scared. And, somehow, you have a calmming effect."

It was obveous to Sakura that there was more to it, but desided to ignore it for now. Sakura nodded, she closed the van’s door and held onto Shade’s hand. Together they walked through the doors and were seated down in the waiting area. The hospital was relative quiet, and they didn’t wait to long. Watching Shade was interesting as they waited it look as if he was looking through walls. At one point he hid part of his face from nothing.

Shade was escorted away, and Sakura waited patently. A basset hound returned later and took Sakura aside; the name tag read Dr. Fields.

"You are the one who found the young panther in a park?" Dr. Fields asked; Sakura nodded. "Do you remember anything about the area different today?"

Sakura thought about it but nothing came to mind. "No, sorry, it was normal. Is there something wrong doctor?"

"Yes," Fields replied. "According to Shade he has had this amnesia for two years. But we cannot find anything physical wrong with him. We need to do more tests but I from what I seen he’s a healthy teen."

Sakura was a little surprised to hear that Shade was so young. "What about patient/doctor confidentially?" she asked.

"Shade said that I can tell you if I needed to," the doctor replied. "He trusts you."

"Yes, I’m not sure why," Sakura admitted.

"But now it’s the hard part," Dr. Fields taking a quick look around. "We cannot have Shade stay here. Like I said he has no indication of injury, but he won’t answer some of our questions. He is either faking this, or something happened that caused the problem."

"I don’t believe he’s faking this," Sakura interrupted.

"Neither do I, but nothing can be done for him until it’s proven," Fields agreed. "However I do believe that if he isn’t watched he will wonder off. Can you do that?"

"Because he trusts me," Sakura thought out loud.

"If it is a problem I can find someone else, but it would work better if he knew someone," the doctor said.

"I think we need to ask Shade," Sakura answered. "If it is alright with him then yes I’ll take him in."

Fields nodded and took Sakura to Shade, who was reading an old travel magazine.

"Well, what’s the diagnosis?" Shade asked, lowering the magazine a little.

Shade listened to Dr. Fields not finding anything wrong and that he has tests already scheduled. Shade didn’t say anything he just listened, even the part about staying with Sakura didn’t affect him.

"What do you think?" the doctor asked at the end of the explanation.

"Sure if you have me I’ll stay with you," Shade replayed to Sakura smiling. "Even if I had a place I don’t know where it is."

Sakura nodded returning the smile.

"Excellent, will just get need to get some information then you can be on your way," Dr. Fields added to the smiles.

Soon Sakura was driving Shade back to her place as Shade once again looked out the window. It took half the drive until someone spoke.

"You’re planning on leaving aren’t you?" Sakura asked suddenly.

Shade sighed. "I have already troubled you, I can’t keep it up. I have nothing to return this."

"But it’s not the only reason?" Sakura said.

Shade’s ears pressed harder against his head. "Two years I have been without my past. I went to other doctors but they could not find the cause. He will find nothing also," Shade turned to look out the front window. "There was one person I had hoped to cure me, he was my last hope. He died before I ever got a chance top talk to him. Now I must move on with my life."

"And I know who can help," Sakura said.

"No, I don’t want to trouble anyone else," Shade replied.

"Trust me she has helped others who were actually trouble," Sakura smiled. "I’ll talk to her tonight at work."

"Work?" Shade thought out loud.

"Oh, sorry I forgot to tell you, Andrea, Roland and I work at the club tonight. Bruce is working tonight too, and T.J. won’t be home until late. That leaves you alone for a few hours," Sakura explained, then looked at Shade.

Shade returned the look. "I won’t run away."

Sakura smiled and continued to drive.

They arrived back at the house sitting on the steps of the three story house was a dark brown wolf which could be guessed as Roland. He didn’t seem happy seeing Shade stepping out of the car, but all he did was stand up.

"Roland," Sakura smiled.

Roland did not return the smile to Sakura instead looked coldly at Shade. Shade noticed but ignored it. Roland gave up the panther and spoke to the she-wolf. "We half to be at work in an hour," Roland said simply. "I thought that you were just dropping him off."

Sakura walked up to Roland and kissed him on the cheek. "You worry too much," Sakura smiled. "I just wanted to make sure he went in. I remember from this one time…,"

"I heard this story," Roland interrupted.

"Sakura," Andrea called from the door. "Are we keeping him?"

Sakura nodded and Andrea jumped off the steps and strait to Shade.

"Come on, I’ll show you around," Andrea purred, looping her arm around Shade’s. She pulled Shade along, though Shade did not share the excitement Andrea did. "Your room is next to mine."

Once they were inside Roland turned back to Sakura. Sakura continue to stand waiting. "Why did you do it, you don’t know him?" Roland said obviously displeased.

"He has amnesia," Sakura replied.

"Andrea told me the story," Roland interrupted again. "Why isn’t he at the hospital?"

"Well, there is nothing they can do for him right now; so they put him under my care," Sakura explained.

"And how will you explain this T.J.?" Roland asked.

"Gently," Sakura said. "Now, I half to get ready for work."
