It was a clear gently warm day. The birds were chirping happily as they flew overhead. It was a lovely day if you were not part of a slave train. A chained group of batter and broken people numbering two dozen walked under the gaze of ten well armed men. Together the group was walking up the cliffs overlooking a large bay. After which was a down hill walk to the boat that awaited them. At the top of the hill stood a figure that made the lead group stop.
The figure was a good seven feet tall with bronze scales over his arms, chest and beautiful human face. Claws tapped on his folded arms and on the rock he stood on. Long blonde ran down his back; parts of it caught bits of the breeze. Two rapiers were attached to his pants legs one partially drawn. Big leathery wings folded partly around him. Gold eyes flashed opened and stared at the men.
“Run, demon!” one presumable the leader shouted.
The ‘demon’s’ wings drooped and lost balance landing on the ground face first. “What,” he coughed out. “I don’t look anything like a demon.”
“Get back half demon,” the leader ordered drawing his weapon.
Placing a claw on his forehead and shaking his head the ‘demon’ stood at full height. “Okay, I have wings,” he spread them out and place them behind him, “bronze scales and,” he pulled back his hair turning slightly as spikes raised from his spine, “a fin.”
No one said anything.
“I’m a half dragon,” he growled, retuning the claw to his forehead. “Honestly did you ever think to find out why this area is so peaceful to walk in; or why it’s called Bronze Bay even though there’s no mining?”
“Hi Drake,” a young voice called out.
“Thank you Patrick,” the half dragon said as waved. “It’s nice to be recognized. I mean I've only spent my life defending the area.”
One of the armed men moved towards the young boy that called out. Drake spotted this and faded from sight only to reappear beside Patrick. One claw hand grabbed the man’s wrist while the other claw entered the man’s neck. He fell gurgling trying to hold the blood in.
“Oh and I get the magic as well,” Drake said flicking his claws of blood.
“Eagle Wing!” Drake shouted aiming a clawed hand at the rear of the convoy. A sudden and violent burst of air struck the three men at the same time blowing them off there feet.
“Blink!” Once again the half dragon faded from sight, appearing in front of another guard. Drake gave a quick punch across the jaw. The second after Drake was gone only to attack behind another guard. This was what he did for the other four guards.
No one was seriously hurt from the attack just angry. “What was that?” the leader yelled.
Bending down and picking up something, Drake started to make hand signals. “There’s no way I could beat ten of you with out hurting the innocents unless I tagged you.”
The leader of the slavers looked down. Metal string was stapled were Drake struck.
“BRONZE STYLE; LUNCH SNARE!” Lightning shot out of Drake’s claws running down the string and into the slavers. All screamed in pain as the energy entered there bodies and burned there skin. It lasted only a few seconds and with it over the groaned and fell over unable to move.
“You’re lucky that you’re worth more alive,” Drake commented, dropping the string.
“Drake the others are getting away,” Patrick shouted.
Looking up, the half dragon watched as the three remaining slavers ran. “A few more feet ought to do it,” Drake opened his massive wings and gave them a flap. Raising his arms as he became air born he started to chant. A loud thud stopped him from completing it.
Drake returned to the ground the same time one of the slavers nosedived into the earth in front of the half dragon.
“Drake, how many time must I tell you to stop being flashy, it gives your enemy time to regroup.” The voice came from a female human in her early forties. She wore light armor with the emblem of captain. “And where’s your armor?”
The half dragon cringed. “Mom.”
