I leave Kyo at the house.  As I ride my motorcycle away, I feel his curious gaze on my back.  I hate to deceive him, but this has to be done alone.  The store I'm headed to comes into view.  I pray they have what I need. 

  I stash my goods in the closet, thankful that Kyo is playing outside.  I head downstairs to stand on the deck.  Kyo sees me and prances over, "Hiro!  What took you so long?"  I smile,  "It was a study group, so of course it took me an hour."  I think back to the unhelpful jerk at the store.  Kyo seems to be suspicious of me but says nothing.  Then a grin stretches his lips, "Your parents are gone for the evening."  I raise an eyebrow, "Oh?"  "Some Halloween dinner party thing...which means...."  I wait for him to continue.  "We'll be alone until morning...."  I touch his cheek with my fingertips, "And just what are you thinking?"  He moves closer to me, "We should talk about this in the bedroom."  I smile at his blush, "Or we could wait until after trick-or-treating."

   I smile as Kyo pulls his hair into a ponytail.  His tail flicks back and forth excitedly.  I desperately try to hide how that effects me.  He frowns at me, "Aren't you getting dressed up?"  "Wait downstairs."  He tilts his head to the side, "You aren't gonna hide up here and try to get out of your promise, are you?"  "No, just go downstairs."  He eyes me skeptically then moves to the door.  I wait until I hear him flop down on the couch, then close the door.  I grab the bag of goodies I'd hidden earlier to take with me to the mirror in the bathroom.

    Kyo sits up when I walk into the living room.  "Now we make a pair."  He regards the fake ears and tail, then smiles, "Thanks Hiro."  "Come on, let's get this trick-or-treating- thing over with."  He gladly walks outside with me.  As the night progresses, I can't help but feel happy as Kyo collects his candy.  The smile on his face doesn't cease to make my heart swell.

   As we walk back to the house Kyo holds my hand.  My mind is back at the house, upstairs playing out the rest of the night when Kyos' grip tightens on my hand.  I glance up from the ground to see Haru walking toward us with a group of his friends.  The smile he directs at Kyo is far too friendly.  It takes all my self-control to keep from beating the living hell out of him.  "Hello, Mikami, Kyo."  "Hi," I mumble as Kyo moves behind me.  "Why so shy, Kyo?"  "Leave him alone," I'm surprised at the ice in my tone.  Haru glances at me, "Fine then, until next time!"  I glare at his retreating form.  We continue to our home in silence.  Once the front door is locked behind us, Kyo pulls me into a hug from behind, "I love you, Hiro."
