Truer than True Account of my Life

chapter three: "the end of end/perfect blue incident"
One sunny weekend, my mother and I journeyed to an anime convention. This was our second convention together, in which I was dressed up as a cat girl for the entire time. Now, there a lot of die hard otaku at this convention, including a weird guy dressed up as Inu-Yasha who kept trying to pick me up with lines like “Hey, baby, ever do it in 16th century Japan?” which was cute but my mother called him pervert and almost attacked him.
Anyway, at the end of this cosplay contest was an anime music video contest in which people would show their anime music videos. Okay, so the first video was based on clips from Perfect Blue – an anime filled with a psuedo-rape scene which highly distrubed my mother. Next came clips fro the End of Eva and it was at this point where my mother made me leave despite me dancing to the music because it was to the tune of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. And to this day, my mother won’t go another convention with me.
And the moral of this story is:
“Yeah, you can let your kid watch anime, but some of that Japanese stuff is freaky,” – my mom
