Is this a growing problem?

Poll: Is this a growing problem?

I wonder if anybody else has noticed but this I'm slowly starting to see a growing problem within a variety the anime community - OBSESSIVE FANS. To say that the shows aren't bad but mentioning the word (example) "Inu-Yasha" and having about five girls scream the word is not only embarassing, but it's pretty sad too. Yeah, I like the shows too but I don't run around posting "ZOMG I love Inuyasha!!1111" like some idiot who runs around drooling. And I don't want a thousand and one flames about the "deeper meaning" of Inu-Yasha for the simple reason that I don't hate the show! ...as much. ...okay, there are certain things I strongly dislike. ...okay, I used to like it. ...when I was 12. ...and when it wasn't in the US. ...and not obnoxiously popular! The point of this complaint is that if you grow that obsessive over a show, you need a severe reality check. And not only is Inu-Yasha already in danger of this happening, but so Naruto (even though I refuse to watch the english dub, my ears bleed) and Fruits Basket.

Yeah, it is. It makes other otaku look insane.
No, it's not! You're exagerrating!
ZOMG! I love Inuyasha!!1111 *drool*

Totally agree. Everywhere I go now I just see fangirls (about 13-15) posting about Fruit Basket

"I llove Yuki but not as much as Kyo but I still like Yuki! Just not as much as Kyo!" etc

It really does annoy me.. sure Fruit Basket it a good anime and manga, I respect that but it's seriously not the ONLY good thing out there. (Fruit Basket is not the only anime/manga with obsessed fans-___-)

Yeah at school it's become a semi big problem. This girl in my class tries to bleong to my group of friends/circle thingie anyway she said she would want to go out with all the Naruto charries.(That are guys of course.)Shouen-ai isn't really a big problem unles they say the like Yaoi. Then I corect them because Yaoi involves more hard core stuff then shouen-ai which is kiss/hug relationships. And another time that I get ticked off is when they think they know everything and can't even pronoune the stuff in the show right.Like this other kid for example.Me and my friends Joe and Luci where just blabbering about anime and random other stuff out anime and then this kid was all like do you watch fooly cooly and then we got in this big conversation and at the end he said "Oh my god you don't know who atomise(W/E his name is) is"Then he pronounced Tetsaiga wrong and Inu-Yasha wrong.Which if he knew japanese is just Dog Demon. That's about it...

Yeah it is annoying but if we didnt have those crazy/stupid people anime wouldnt be as big as it is now. Thats why people like us are here to keep them in check. "Cant live with them, cant live without them."

I totally agree with you, I actually believe popularity can ruin a series, thats why I try and read things that aren't mainstream because truth be told half the stuff that isn't mainstream is better then the popular stuff

I think it reflects badly on those who are... more normal and level headed in their fandom. But it's been happening way before Inuyasha, Naruto and all of those. Back in the late 90's, the big show on Cartoon Network was Gundam Wing... I admit to being kind of part of that fandom. I was young and obsessive... what can I say? After this I remember Card Captor Sakura being the thing it seemed like everyone was obessessing about. And recently it's been something like Inuyasha, Full Metal Alchemist, Naruto and Fruits Basket... And in another year or more it will be some other anime. It's like a smaller scale of how popular media in general works in America. I find it kind of sickening... but I don't know there's much you can do. Young teens especially are often seeking groups to belong to, and trying to define their tastes, so they will praise things that others who are older might view as tasteless... and will fall into these groups where they can gab and giggle about which boy they want macking on some other straight boy in the series, and other obnoxious stuff like this... I just pray they all grow out of it like I did. But I do know of older fans who act like this... they scare me anymore since it's like they never grew up. Aiieee...
